Auckland City Library


Auckland central city library is a place where you can find knowledge, information, and inspiration. It is a valuable resource for both residents and visitors to Auckland. The Library has a wide range of books, magazines, newspapers, music, and DVDs. You can also access the Internet, use word processing and printing facilities, and participate in events and programmes.

A Brief Overview:

The Auckland City Library is located in the Central Business District of Auckland, on Level 2 of the Aotea Centre. The library is situated between Albert Park and Queen Street. The address is 44/46 Lorne Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010, New Zealand The library is open 7 days a week. The opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm.

Auckland City Libraries are a network of 18 public libraries serving the residents of Auckland city. Combined they hold over 2 million items in over 60 different languages. There are also extensive digital collections available including eBooks, eMagazines, databases, and genealogy resources. 

You can join the library for free if you live or work in Auckland. Proof of identity and current address are required. Auckland City Libraries offer an extensive programme of events and activities for all ages including storytimes, computer classes, author talks, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts.

You can browse the shelves yourself or search our catalogue online before your visit. If you need help finding something specific, our friendly staff will be happy to assist you. 

Their heritage collections are also available for browsing during opening hours. These include the Alexander Turnbull Library collections which are of national importance.

The library is a great place to study with plenty of powerpoints available and WiFi access throughout the building. If you need some peace and quiet, there are also study rooms available which can be booked out for 2 hour sessions.
