Sanders Reserve and Bike Park

This reserve is a 41-hectare park with several mountain bike trails, including a 500-meter trail for children. In other words, the bike park is open to adults and children. The kid’s track is within view of the car park and is suitable for kids under 10 years. Apart from it, there is a 20km advanced trail for cyclists that fancy a bit of long biking.

Sanders also has a separate horse riding area, a native bird habitat, and a coastal native forest. Therefore, bike riders must always pay attention to horse riders. The reserve is a great spot for picnics as seating areas under a big roof provide shelter from winter rain.

Totara Park mountain bike track is located in the northern section of Totara Park. Totara is 216 hectares of open space with natural areas and bridles trails suitable for mountain biking. The trails are a mix of intermediate to beginner, gentle grades for different riders.

If you live in central Auckland, the mountain bike park is approximately 20 minutes from the central business district. Mountain bikers can also join the Totara Park Mountain Bike Club to connect with fellow riders.

Woodhill mountain bike park is open all year round, and its unique location shields it from snow and heat waves. Besides the workshop, riders can find any gear in the pro shop, and there is a drink station serving cold drinks. At least one Woodhill mountain bike park staff has prehospital medical care training to assist in case of emergencies within the park, and you can request a coach. 

West Coast Riders Club

The West Coast Riders Club is a registered charity club dedicated to preserving the mountain bike facility in Riverhead Forest.

Riverhead Forest is a state-owned forest that covers 12,000 hectares. It has some of the best mountain biking trails for adventures, and the club consists of members united by their love of mountain biking. Their trail network is designed for all riders, and the Riverhead Forest facility is free.

The club helps members with pump track building, maintenance tips, competitive racing, and ecology. They also foster mountain bike riding with skills training and events.

If you live around Waiheke, this is one bike club you should try out. The location is only 35 minutes from downtown Auckland. 

Duder Regional Park

Duder Regional Pak is located on the pohutukawa-fringed Whakakaiwhara Peninsula, east of Auckland, cutting into the Tamaki Strait. The park is 162 hectares of coastal farm park with a 4km loop. Its trail is sufficient for beginners, and the park allows a 360-degree view of the surrounding hills, Hauraki Gulf Islands, and Hunua ranges.

The park is alcohol and smoke-free. Therefore, it is a safe destination for the family. 

Arch Hill Mountain Bike Trails

The Arch Hill Mountain Bike team is responsible for building and keeping the trail in good condition. Not only this, but they also promote events that anyone can join. 

Beveridge Track

The Beveridge Track allows riders to race through the Waitakere’s starts. The track is an out-and-back ride of 6 km that takes cyclists through a regenerating native bush and an oasis.
