If you want a friendly service & a tasty meal with somewhere to sit and watch the world go by – this is a great place to visit. Best Ugly Bagels is home to the freshly baked Montreal style bagels in the heart of Auckland City. Whenever we are in Newmarket – Best Ugly is always on our list of places to visit. The bagels are deliciously hand made with incredible fillings (personal favourite is the Mean Joe Green, because it is smothered in avocado). You don’t find bagels fresher than these.

If you are in the west of Auckland and looking for great coffee and amazing bagels, this is the place. The Tannery in New Lynn never fails to deliver consistently. The Tannery is Mt Atkinson’s flagship café and serves Mt Atkinson coffee, Kohu Road ice cream and Best Ugly bagels. There is parking outside the front and when we entered the vast historic building with high rustic ceilings, we were not disappointed. They open early which is a great way to start the day with a simple but soul-filling bagel.

When you stop off at Goodness Gracious on New North Road, you can expect delish coffee and fresh bagels. Their bagels are freshly boiled, New York styled. They don’t just do plain bagels either – parmesan, sesame, wholemeal, raisin, and gluten-free varieties are on offer too. Whichever you choose, you can pack it with tasty fillings like hot smoked salmon, chicken, bacon and avocado, spiced pulled pork, or vegan options. The biggest problem here will be choosing which bagel to have.
Our Favourite: If we have to choose just one, we’d go for The Brekkie Bagel – filled with a fried egg, crispy bacon, tomato, fresh spinach, aioli & tomato relish because there really is a no better way to start the day!

Can’t go wrong with a bagel and a coffee in the morning from these guys. The smell of the bakery alone was enough to see it end up on this list. Geeks On Sainsbury have the infamous best ugly bagels and they have a great selection to pick from. We love the Kale and Pecan Pesto Bagel…Sautéed kale, smashed avocado, portobello mushroom, sliced tomato, pecan pesto, cream cheese mixed with sundried tomato on a sesame. One of Auckland’s best bagels for those days when nothing but carbs will do.

Established in 2014, Scarecrow is rated amongst the best in Auckland for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The smoked salmon cream cheese bagel may seem like a straightforward offering, but something this simple needs to be perfect and Scarecrow does it so well, the salmon bagel with cream cheese, capers, red onion and avocado. One of the best smoked salmon bagels in Auckland to be enjoyed with a coffee when you’re in a rush.

If you are in the Grafton area this place is worth visiting, a bagel bursting with deliciousness from Welcome Eatery perfect way to start the day. Using fresh seasonal produce to make delicious bagels that are well priced too is always a winner! You can’t go wrong with a single menu item but of course, the eggs bene with bacon bagel is the one. Without a doubt, one of the best bagels in Auckland. We enjoy how at Welcome Eatery, they are focusing more on making great coffee than on diversifying too much with alternative brew methods.
You could spend hours here, enjoying fresh juice, long blacks and green smoothies, and there was no sense of pressure on you to move on! Welcome Eatery is one of the rare cafes in Auckland where you’d feel quite at ease sitting in here with your laptop and getting down to business without everyone’s eyes peering over at you.
