We’ve noticed over the years that Eden Noodles is often very busy, with many people lining up before the noon hour to get an order of one of the restaurant’s many Chinese dishes. We tried Eden Noodles for ourselves, and we found plenty of things to love about this venue, but there are still some concerns to note. The place is still an intriguing site to visit while in Auckland.

Divine Dumplings

The thing that stood out the most about Eden Noodles for us was their dumplings. Eden Noodles serves some great dumplings that are made on-site and feature some amazing flavours.

We noticed while in the restaurant that there’s a worker who is making the dumplings on site. The worker was busy getting the dough ready and pressing the proper shapes for the dumplings before filling them with the proper ingredients. It’s great to see a place that is transparent about how it makes one of its most popular foods.

It didn’t take long for us to eat a medium-size serving of fifteen dumplings. We could have gone with a twenty-piece large serving.

The pork and cabbage dumplings feature an even mix of the two together, with the two flavours blending well. They tasted well on their own, but they are also better when added to a traditional vegetable broth.

Other Foods of Note

The spicy sauce here produces a noticeable kick, although it isn’t as intense as what you’d get out of some other chili sauces. The restaurant also has a hot chili sauce if you’re looking for something more adventurous and exciting to try.

The kimchi is also great for when you’re looking to cool off after a warm meal. The kimchi has a tangy flavour, plus it features a unique pickled look that makes it stand out from everything else on the table.

The meats here also break apart well, making it easier for us to share foods with one another. Everything is cooked to where it all provides a comfortable flavour and texture without things being too thick or thin.

The greens they add to the meals are also worth noting. The team offers cabbage, celery, and lettuce to many meals. The greens are slightly wilted to create a moisture texture that covers the meat well. The design adds a good feeling to the meal without being overly rough.

Any Issues?

While Eden Noodles has some quality foods, we did notice a few issues. First, the customer service isn’t always on par with what we’ve found in other places around Auckland. The wait staff seems to be rather hurried on occasion and isn’t always there for the people. But we can chalk this up to how the place can get rather busy at times.

Most of the dishes here are also spicy. While we enjoy a good spicy entrée here and there, the variety of non-spicy options isn’t as strong as you’d expect. Some entrees do come with Sichuan peppers, although those can still be a little too intense at times. Anyone looking for something light will need to look carefully at what the menu features when placing an order.

The restaurant also does not customise any of its foods. The place says that it will not customise orders to ensure the workers stay efficient and to preserve the quality of the foods. It’s unfortunate because there are a few spicy entrees that we’d like to try non-spicy versions of while we are here.

But even with those issues, Eden Noodles still provides some quality dishes for all Chinese food fans in Auckland to enjoy. Eden Noodles gives you plenty of ways to enjoy great Chinese food, especially their dumplings.
