Auckland Museum Review:
Auckland Museum was founded in 1852 as a Museum for the province of Auckland and was New Zealand’s first Museum. In 1929, a new Museum building was opened after funds were raised to connect a war memorial for Auckland with a new building for Auckland Museum.
The Museum expresses the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand’s top three heritage libraries. It has pre-eminent Māori and Pacific collections, significant natural history resources and major social and military history collections and not to mention stunning decorative arts and pictorial collections.
Tāmaki Paenga Hira means Auckland”s memorial to fallen chiefs and their gathered taonga.
Auckland Museum is Free for Auckland Residents, and is free to all visitors on ANZAC Day. Auckland Museum prices for International visitors: $28 Adult, $14 Child 5-13, $70 Family.
