When you think of Auckland, the first thing that comes to mind is probably its stunning city skyline. The city is home to some of the tallest buildings in New Zealand, and the views from them are truly breathtaking. In fact, the city skyline is one of the main reasons why people visit Auckland.

However, the city skyline is more than just a pretty view. It’s also a symbol of Auckland’s economic strength and vitality. The skyline is constantly evolving, with new towers being built and old ones being refurbished. This ongoing development is a testament to the city’s thriving business community. And it’s not just businesses that are growing in Auckland. The population of the city is also on the rise, making it one of the most exciting and vibrant places to live in New Zealand.

If you live in or visit Auckland, these are 5 most scenic places to watch the city – whether the sun rises or sets over the skyscrapers, or the lights come on at night.

1. Sky Tower

Located in the Southern Hemisphere, this iconic building was built in 1997. There is nothing better than looking around you and finding out where you live, where you work, and seeing the city bustling below you.

New Zealand’s Sky Tower is known for being an adventure hub and a luxury dining establishment. Aside from being the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, it is also New Zealand’s most recognisable landmark.

2. Waitemata Harbour

Auckland Harbour is actually called Waitemata Harbour, but most people refer to it as Auckland Harbour. In Maori, it means “sparkling waters,” which is a very appropriate name. You can tour Auckland by boat, while viewing the city in the background, as numerous islands dot the harbour.

3. Mount Eden

As Auckland’s tallest volcano cone, this maunga is a must-see destination just outside the CBD. From the peak, you can see incredible views.

Don’t hesitate to wander around and see all the panoramic views you can get, as there are a lot of different spots. Watching the sunset while having a picnic dinner is a popular activity. Featuring colourful plant collections, waterfalls, rock formations, resident native birds, and fabulous views of the city and harbour.

4. Mount Victoria

A panorama of Auckland City, Rangitoto Island, the North Shore and the Hauraki Gulf can be seen from Mount Victoria. Devonport is a beautiful seaside town located on the north shore of the Pacific Ocean. The steep walk to the summit will take about 20 minutes from the top. There is also parking at the top, which can be reached by car.

You can see picturesque views of Auckland skyline at Mount Victoria Reserve (plus it’s free).

5. Te Atatu

A waterfront suburb of Auckland, New Zealand , Te Atatu has extensive views of the city skyline, the central city, and the north shore of the Waitemata Harbour. As well as the Auckland Harbour Bridge, there are direct views of the bridge.
